Sustainable development aims to achieve social welfare and economic growth for the population in the long term, provided that natural and environmental resources are preserved. The Environmental Protection Program works to increase environmental awareness by implementing many campaigns and initiatives that contribute to the development of nature and environment through environmentally friendly activities. Among the most important projects and initiatives:

Our town's Basket is a youth initiative launched in 2019, implemented by the Future Development Commission, in partnership with the Gaza Municipality, and funded by the Rawa Foundation. The idea of this initiative was based on the collection, sorting and treatment of household waste in order to make maximum use of it through recycling. The initiative began as a result of the emergence of the waste problem recently and the increase in the amount of solid waste consumed by the population. Volunteers started it on a part of the Tal Al-Hawa residencies (Southern area), so nearly 3,000 residents and cleaners were educated about how to manage solid waste and ways to dispose of it in an organized manner. By distributing containers to residents of Tal Al-Hawa area for each type of solid waste.

  • 1- Achieving environmental sustainability for solid waste management in Gaza Strip.
  • 2- Creating a culture of saving the environment among people.
  • 3- raising environmental awareness and promoting the principle of waste sorting.
  • 4- Spreading the culture of volunteer work among members of the community.
  • The Future Development Commission implemented the “Our Sea is Better” initiative in cooperation with the Sharek Youth Forum, the Department of Health and Environment in the Municipality of Gaza and the sea is ours Cooperative, as part of a series of international initiatives undertaken by the European Union to protect the shores of the seas and oceans. 2021, in which many young volunteers participated, which included cleaning the beaches, placing awareness banners, and producing visual media materials that call for preserving and protecting the quality of the marine environment.

    Main goals:
  • 1- Educating beachgoers and visitors about the importance of maintaining cleanliness and not throwing waste.
  • 2- implanting the culture of saving beaches.
  • A community initiative aimed at improving the environmental work and protecting the cleaners from false behaviors during the solid waste management process and providing them with sanitary materials and allowances that help them enhance safety and protection for them during the performance of their work. The mental health of 100 workers from the municipalities of Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahia and Umm Al-Nasr village was enhanced. And raising awareness among the residents of the northern region to advocate and promote the protection of the rights of cleaning workers in the northern Gaza governorate. The initiative also included the implementation of an environmental summer camp.
    The Future Development Commission implemented the initiative in Al-Shaima area, in the northern Gaza Strip, which suffers from random dumping of waste. 92,000 people, including awareness about the dangers of solid waste through awareness workshops and brochures that were distributed to students and residents, and 280 trees and seedlings were planted in the targeted landfill area and the roads and homes of citizens, in addition to distributing 23 containers throughout the targeted area, and 30 farmers were trained In the Shaima region, on how to convert organic solid waste into natural fertilizers.
