Education & Protection

The program contributes to the access of children from 4 to 18 years of age to an integrated educational and psychosocial program and to improve the psychosocial well-being and resilience of children by reducing their level of fear. In its program, the future development commission focused on improving the level of mental health of children by providing them with skills to deal with their psychological and behavioral problems.

Main projects and activities

The Future Development Commission implemented a psychological support project in partnership with Islamic Relief during the years 2015-2019, to provide psychosocial support services for youth aged 13-17 years old and their caregivers, to serve them self-protection skills and provide them with mechanisms and skills to deal with their psychological and behavioral problems, in Northern Gaza regions (Beit Lahiya, Beit Lahiya project area and Jabalia area)in partnership with many institutions throughout the years of the project implementation such as: Bint Al-Reef Association, Afkar preschool, Alshabyya Committee and the North Association, in the result twelve group sessions were implemented for each teenager and six sessions for mothers. Some teenagers had been referred to individual services and psychological counseling. During the project period, family counseling sessions were implemented for a number of families, and several sessions were applied with families in their homes in order to deliver psychological service in an integrated manner to all family members. Approximately 6,212 teenagers and women were benefited from the project's activities.

Project goals:
  • Improving the welfare of children through integrated self-protection and psychosocial support services.
  • 2- Improving psychological and social support services for children in schools through sports.
  • 3- Improving the mental health of youth and caregivers.
  • 4- Providing youth with life skills training to help them overcome their problems and the pressures they face.
  • The project was implemented by the Future Development commission in partnership with Islamic Relief / Palestine Office. This project was conducted in two phases in 2017-2019, in order to achieve the level of psychological well-being for children through psychosocial support sessions, and to rehabilitate safe, environment-friendly kindergartens through improvement and maintenance of the infrastructure of kindergartens and the rehabilitation of playgrounds and classrooms in a manner that guarantees the safety of the child. In addition to providing them with outdoor games, 3,378 children benefited from the project's activities.

    Project goals:
  • Support and development of kindergarten sector.
  • Improving the quality of education in kindergartens of Gaza Strip.
  • Building capacity of caregivers through a guide of psychological support.
  • To rehabilitate public parks after studying the needs and arranging intervention priorities by providing the parks with safe, child-friendly play corners as part of child protection measures so that children can meet in them to play and relax, express themselves, feel supported and learn the necessary skills to deal with the challenges they face, through the project’s activities approximately 114,750 people were benefited and 14 parks were rehabilitated, starting from the year 2017-2022, in partnership with 9 local committees.

  • enhancing welfare and mental for children by creating safe, child-friendly play spaces in gardens and public parks
  • The Future Development commission and the Community Training and Crisis Management Center implemented a comprehensive care project in partnership with the Islamic Relief Foundation to provide group of psychological support sessions for 63 children with cancer, with 8 sessions for each child, which included recreational activities with the aim of modifying children’s negative ideas about the disease they suffer from, and applying 8 - 12 individual sessions for 24 children for psychological relief and modification of some behaviors. The project targeted 12 families with 8 sessions to support and help the parents because of the psychological situation that the family is exposed to in light of their son’s illness.

  • improving social and psychological rehabilitation of children to reach a good status of psychological and social compatibility for the child and the family and meet their needs. thus, contributing to alleviating psychological and social pressures and enhancing the ability to adapt to crises.
  • Raise health awareness among members of society to prevent this malignant disease through education and health education workshops.
  • Raise the awareness of parent caregivers on how to deal with children sickness.
  •  The Future Development Commission had implemented a project to promote the right of education funded by Islamic Relief within the comprehensive care project for children in Gaza Strip. During this project, supportive education sessions were provided to 52 child with cancer diseases to compensate them for their educational lessons that they miss due to medical treatment and travel (educational sessions interspersed with fun activities) for basic subjects: Mathematics, Arabic, English, and basic education.

    Project goals:
  • Follow up with the educational process of children in light of the conditions that those who are absent from school are exposed to due to illness and travel for treatment.
  • Reducing the burdens on parents of patients by contributing to strengthening the educational level of their underachieving children.
  • Contribute to the integration of children into society.
  • Empowering youth by providing job opportunities for a number of females who participated in activities and initiatives implemented by the Commission.
  • The project is being implemented by the Future Development Commission in partnership with the Islamic Relief Foundation. The idea of the project (psychosocial support activities) emerged as an emergency response after the recent war on the Gaza Strip. The project targeted the areas of northern Gaza that were directly affected and includes: Beit Lahiya, Beit Hanoun, Izbat Abd Rabbo and the village of Umm al-Nasr. Field visits were organized for 145 families, with 5 sessions for each family in their home, to provide counseling services to families about some of the mental disorders that are expected to appear in adults and children, and to guide families on how to obtain help in the field of psychological support and counseling. Thus, alleviating the psychological pressures of family members through many methods and activities that mitigate the effects of the war, such as collective games to achieve family harmony and consolidate family relations, which would help children to talk about their experiences that they lived during the days of war, and relaxation sessions and emotional discharge and provide them with the skills to adapt to the situations they have been exposed to. Gifts containing toys and stationery were provided to all families, and many trips and entertainment days were implemented.

    Project goals:
  • 1- Improving the protection status of children through the family counseling approach and health and environmental practices.
  • 2- Increasing the stability of families (parents and children) through family intervention, to improve the knowledge and skills of children in regulating their emotions and anger, and to improve the knowledge and skills of parents in how to deal with the problems of their children.
  • 3- Empowering local community institutions with the ability to provide family counseling services in all areas of Gaza Strip
  • The project was implemented by the Future Development Commission, in partnership with Kinder USA, in two phases during the academic year 2021, 2022, and 2023. A full breakfast meal was provided, three days per week, to 4,109 children in 58 kindergartens in the northern, eastern, and western regions of Gaza City, in order to preserve On the health and building of the children's body and improving the level of attention and focus for them, and the educational environment in kindergartens was developed through building the capabilities of 24 kindergarten nannies through a training program in the field of active learning and psychological support for children. 20 women were empowered economically and their livelihoods were improved by providing income-generating job opportunities (preparing children's meals).

    Project goals:
  • 1- Improving the nutritional, psychological and social situation of Palestinian pre-school children in Gaza Strip
  • 2- Improving the educational status of pre-school children in the North Gaza Governorate.
  • 3- Developing the capacities of seven marginalized kindergartens in Gaza northern governorate, including teachers and buildings, to provide an enabling environment and active learning.
  • 4- Creating job opportunities for 20 women members of cooperatives and working on preparing breakfast meals.
  • It was implemented by the Future Development commission in partnership with the Creative Palestinian Community Initiatives Fund “Rawa” and funded by the Middle East Children's Alliance in a number of schools in northern Gaza (Umm al-Fahm Secondary School for Girls, Mahdia Shawa School, Al-Shaimaa School) with the aim of creating a physical educational environment, benefiting approximately 2829 students and teachers directly through awareness and guidance workshops on the importance of preserving the environment, and a 16-cement bench was built in Mahdia Al-Shawa School, a shed was prepared and installed inside the school, and (93) tires were supplied to the school, and they were equipped It was decorated in a wonderful aesthetic way inside the schools, and (60) seedlings, forest trees, and decorations were supplied by the Directorate of Agriculture in the northern Gaza Strip to the school in order to create a green space inside the school. A pergola was equipped and installed in each targeted school.
  • 1- The Remedial Learning Initiative The project’s activities were hosted by the Future Development commission, which is a study- support to help 22 children complete their educational lessons that were interrupted due to the closures caused by the Covid crisis. On the job that targeted 4 students from the Al-Fakhoora program as teachers, the educational level of the children participating in the meetings was improved and the community participation of university students participating as teachers was enhanced, in addition to empowering them through the opportunity for on-the-job training.

  • 3- Let us protect ourselves: The Future Development commission implemented the initiative with Al-Rafei School for Boys during Covid pandemic to spread awareness about the prevention measures from the Covid virus. Educating 40 parents about adherence to safety and prevention measures to limit the spread of the Corona virus, and distributing sterile materials to all classrooms.


  • Children's TEDx: carried out by the Future Development commission in partnership with Islamic Relief, with the aim of contributing to strengthening child protection policies in Gaza, with the participation of ten children to talk about their experiences and the challenges they face in life. We want the one who hears us).


  • 5- The Little Policeman: implemented by the Future development commission in cooperation with the People’s Committee for Refugees, with the participation of four schools in the northern Gaza region (Jabalya Camp). The necessary safety for them and avoiding traffic accidents.


  • 6- The psychological support initiative and recreational activities that targeted areas damaged during the recent aggression on Gaza 2021 (Beit Lahiya, Beit Hanoun, Jabalia, Umm Al-Nasr village), targeting nearly 600 children and women to mitigate the effects and damage they were exposed to during the war, participated in it Approximately 20 volunteers from the Future Development Authority over the course of a full week to carry out recreational activities and psychological support activities to improve the psychological well-being of children.
